Not all tattoo pain is created equal, and sometimes its best to be prepared for the worst. I recommend an extra strength Tylenol, or numbing ointment*. Do not come drunk; that’s helpful to no one.
*numbing ointment only works once skin is already broken.
Skin is happiest and behaves best when you slough your dead skin off, every once in a while. This can be achieved by using a loofah, or an exfoliating body wash. Be sure to do this BEFORE shaving.
Your artist is always prepared to shave the area you will have tattooed, but it is preferred (and appreciated) that you come clean shaven.
Supple, hydrated skin is ideal for tattooing. A week before your tattoo, start applying a skin moisturizer to the area to be inked, and the surrounding area. We prefer shea butter, coconut oil, or an unscented lotion, but no need to buy new lotion if you already have some. Drink water!
When you’re getting tattooed, your skin is going through active trauma. It’s hard for your body to withstand tattooing without a good meal in your stomach. Here are some local eateries in case you need to grab some food before your session:
Not only will we not tattoo if you have been drinking to excess, we won’t tattoo you if you were drunk last night. Indulging in excessive alcohol before getting tattooed makes it more difficult to give you the ink of your dreams, so just come back sober. Or, get drunk AFTER your tattoo session.
The caffeine in coffee actually wakes your nerve endings up; so probably best to stay away from anything with a lot of caffeine.
it’s just a tattoo! Its only forever. Your artist knows exactly what they’re doing to give you a kick ass tattoo. You are in good hands.
